Tadao Hermita Ito Cello | HMI Fellow

Born in Puebla City, Mexico, Tadao Hermida Ito began his cello studies with his father at the age of four. Throughout his early career, Tadao performed in master classes with musicians such as Yo-yo Ma, Gustav Rivinius, Eric Kim and Jeroen den Herder. From 2012-13, he continued his studies with Gavriel Lipkind.

Tadao received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music under Yehuda Hanani´s tutelage, graduating summa cum laude. While in school, he received chamber music and orchestral repertoire training with Ilya Finkelshteyn, Giora Schmidt and the Ariel Quartet.

In addition to receiving numerous awards and scholarships, Tadao has participated in music festivals around the world including High Peaks Festival (USA), Instrumenta Oaxaca (Mexico), Forum Artium (Germany), Lipkind Masterclasses (Holland), and Keshet Eilon (Israel).

A recipient of Mexico’s prestigious FONCA-CONACYT grant scholarship for studies abroad, Tadao is currently a Henry Mancini Institute Fellow at the Frost School of Music as a student of Ross Harbaugh.
