DMA Double Bass Performance

Diego Matallana is a double bassist originally from Ibagué, Colombia. At the age of eleven, Matallana entered the Conservatorio del Tolima studying classical music. Subsequently, he was accepted to the Classical Double Bass Performance program at the National University of Colombia in Bogotá. Matallana earned a Master of Music from the University of Miami, where he is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Performance. Additionally, Matallana is the Classical Double Bass Teaching Assistant at the Frost School of Music and the Double Bass Fellow at the Henry Mancini Institute.

Matallana has been part of some of the most prestigious symphonic orchestras in Colombia, acting as the principal bass for orchestras like the Filarmónica Juvenil de Cámara de Bogotá, Filarmónica Joven de Colombia and Bogotá Chamber Orchestra. He has also been invited to play in the Nueva Filarmonía Orchestra, Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá, Orquesta Sinfónica de Colombia, Houston Symphony Orchestra, and more recently the New World Symphony. In addition to his orchestral involvement, Matallana has a vast array of pedagogical experience. He has taught in music programs such as Fundación Batuta, Tocar y Luchar Cafam-Colombia, Centros Orquestales – Filarmónica de Bogotá, and the Frost School of Music.
